AIA Vitality Program

The AIA Vitality Program, which was introduced in 2014, is aimed at rewarding healthy customers by providing a discount on insurance as well as other cool discounts on non-insurance related products. The program was launched after a successful trial in South Africa where it was concluded that AIA Vitality members who actively use the program live longer and have lower health care costs than non-vitality members.

How does the AIA Vitality Program Work?

If you purchase an AIA product through Spotter Life you are eligible for a discount in the first year of 10% for all lump sum cover. The AIA Vitality Program covers Life Insurance, Trauma and TPD but not income protection. To be eligible for the program, there is a $10 a month fee.

Does Vitality work through superannuation?

If you are paying your premiums for AIA via super then you can still be eligible for the program. You will need to pay the $120 per year outside of super ($10 per month), however, the amount you pay for your policy inside super will be reduced by the Vitality discount.

Can I get a bigger discount in future years?

If you engage in the AIA vitality program you can receive additional discounts in future years. Points are awarded for knowing your health and improving your health.
The “knowing your health activities” include a health review, which is a short online assessment. Additional points can be earned by doing a fitness assessment at participating gyms (Virgin and anytime) or doing health screenings.

The “improving your health” activities are the most commonly engaged and they include visits to the gym or monitoring your health with a fitness device such as a Fitbit or similar device. If you are a non-smoker you also get a bonus 1000 points at the outside of the program.

What are the other non-insurance benefits of the Vitality Program?

AIA have teamed up with a plethora of partners to provide regular discounts on their services if you achieve points. Regular rewards include $7.50 spend on Boost Juice a week, up to 70% off HOYTS movie tickets. Larger discounts include up to 50% off Qantas flights. Word on the street is they are planning to bring on a string of new partners later this year.

How we get paid

We (including your adviser) may be remunerated in the following various ways for the financial services provided to you.

Commission

We will receive commission on any life insurance products your adviser arranges for you. This commission is built in to the cost of the insurance. The rate of commission varies between the different product providers but can be up to 140% of the initial premium and up to 40% of renewal premiums. Based on the 140% and 40% we would receive up to $1,400 upfront commission on an annual premium of $1,000 and up to $400 of each renewal premium.

Performance Bonuses

Sometimes product providers will pay us bonuses based on the business placed with that insurer. The criteria for such bonuses are typically the volume of business placed and the level of retention of that business over time.

In the event that we receive a performance bonus it will be shared with your adviser. From that part of the bonus generated as a result of business written by your adviser, the adviser may receive up to 100% of that bonus (37.5% if you have been referred by an affiliate, with the affiliate receiving 12.5%).

Alternative Benefits

We maintain an Alternative Benefits Register which contains information about any alternative forms of payment or benefits that may be received. Please let your adviser know if you have questions about or want to inspect this register. We may receive sponsorships from product providers which contributes to the professional development of our Authorised Representatives.
